The uncanny refers to the ominous or even horrifying feeling evoked by inanimate objects that imitate living things – robots, dolls, artificial flowers. A new kind of landscape can now be observed in the Western Anthropocene, designed by humans as an imitation of virgin wilderness. Thus we find ourselves in a new world in which we are no longer able to recognize which landscapes are untouched and which merely appear to be. A new concept of nature is emerging.
